The new Main 2 galaxy has been open for a few weeks now and there’s already a lot going on.
This post marks the start of a new weekly ‘Galactic News’ series. Each week we’ll keep you updated with the state of the galaxy and what’s been going on.
- You’ll be able to find out how your empire compares to other players’
- See if you were one of the biggest movers on the leaderboards
- Get useful insights into what other players are doing
- Find out what’s been going on in the last week e.g. new patches, hot topics in the community
Let us know if there’s anything you’d like to see us cover. Please note: this post focusses on the Main 2 galaxy only.
Top Players – Main 2 Galaxy
Master of Warfare
Master of Warfare
Master of Warfare
The ‘Top 10’ tables above are from the Main 2 galaxy leaderboards (as they were on Friday morning). The ‘Climbers’ and ‘Fallers’ tables are from the same leaderboards but ordered by rank positions gained/lost.
Congratulations to our current ‘Grand Emperor’ Rislem, ‘Master of Warfare’ Belisarius, and the ‘Highest Climbers’ ian_aurgnet and adamdragon101.
Next Friday we’ll take another snapshot of these leaderboards and see whether anyone has managed to dethrone the Grand Emperor or Master of Warfare!
As you can see the Main 2 galaxy is pretty big and there’s plenty of room for more players.
When flicking between the images/tabs you’ll notice less of a change in the middle of that yellow blob (which represents player colonies).
That’s because there are already a lot of colonies in that area because it’s where the oldest players spawned – the middle. And due to the scale of the image the colony markers in this area merge together.
It’s much easier to notice the new colonies appearing along the edge of the cluster – where new players spawn.
If you’re new to the game or haven’t started playing yet don’t worry. New players spawn further away from older players in areas with other new players of a similar age. So there’s no reason not to jump into a new game in a galaxy that’s already started.
Players in the Main 2 Galaxy
|Averages per player|
- There are 611 players in the Main 2 galaxy and more players are joining all the time
- 11% of those players joined the galaxy in the last 7 days alone
Some players are only playing in the Main 2 galaxy, others are playing in the Skirmish 2 galaxy which launched at the same time, and others are playing in both galaxies at the same time!
Robots and Snakes
Of the 5 playable civs in the game right now it’s clear which are the most and least popular (see the table above).
The Snithereal (snakes) are the most recently added. Is that why players are overlooking them and rushing for the Syntis (robots) – lack of familiarity? Or is it something else?
1,042 fleet battles in the last 7 days (not including pirates).
That’s less than we’ve seen at other times. Often there is a flurry of small battles at the start of a galaxy when lots of players join at the same time and are scrambling to claim territory. Then things tend to settle down a bit until battles between larger, more power fleets become commonplace.
In a future Galactic News update we’ll try to get some more warfare stats together for you e.g.
- Colony raids
- Fleet composition e.g. DPS, HP, etc.
If you have any particular requests please let us know.
|Players with active minefields||19% (114 of 611 players)|
19% of players have at least one active minefield at the moment. If you’re not using minefields to defend your territory there’s a good chance your enemy is!
We plan to make some changes to minefields soon. It’ll be interesting to see how these numbers change once they’ve been introduced.
Patch v113 – Auto-transfer Resources for Fleets
At the start of the week we released a new patch. If you haven’t yet read the patch notes you can find them here. Patch highlights include:
- Auto-resource transfer for fleets (see the wiki)
- Syntis players now get the happiness bonus from a 100% happy organic second population
- Choose which population to displace when invading a colony with 2 civ populations already
- More checks on spawn code usage
Minefields: Next Steps
Minefields have been a hot topic on the forums for a while now. Many players were asking for significant changes to the current mechanics.
We’ve taken these suggestions onboard and have posted the next steps we plan to take with minefields. We’ll continue to evaluate the feedback as it comes in, so if you haven’t had your say yet it’s still worth chiming in.
