Hi everyone,
On Thursday next week (September 24th) we’re going to launch a new Awaken the Dark galaxy. The Awaken the Dark galaxy running now will continue but it’ll only be possible to join the new one. In this post we’ll look at some of the balancing changes we’re going to make.
Awaken the Dark Balancing Changes
Credit and resource growth rates at the start of a new Awaken the Dark game are good. But beyond those early stages the growth rates quickly become HUGE. Some players have a balance of over 50 million credits!
With such an overabundance of resources there’s little incentive to build and upgrade infrastructure.
So the goal with these balancing changes is to keep the early game flowing, but make the later stages more challenging. The first levels of buildings will be very affordable, but the higher levels will be more expensive but also more powerful than they are currently.
Every building will be affected and some ship parts too (not ship hulls). We’ll look at the changes for a few buildings here – a similar approach will be taken with the others:

As you can see, there are few changes at Level 1, but Levels 2 and 3 look very different.
Other Changes
Some other changes we’re planning involve planetary scanners and mines (the digging resources out of the ground variety). They’re based on discussions we’ve seen across the community. If you have any feedback on them please let us know.
Planetary Scanners
All planetary scanners currently have a max radius of 35 LY. We plan to:
- Increase T2 ranges to 45 LY and T3 to 55 LY
- Enable Harpy sensor range of their scanners to detect cloaked fleets and minefields
Mines
Player feedback we’ve seen suggests T2 mines are seen as stepping stones to T3 mines rather than something useful in their own right.
We plan to enable them to deep mine, but at a reduced rate compared to the deep mining rate of T3 mines. Their pricing will be adjusted to reflect this.
New Patch Released
This week we released a new patch. In case you missed it, you can find the patch notes here. Player designated guard fleets and Steam achievements are now in the game!
That’s it for now. Remember, the new Awaken the Dark galaxy launches next Thursday. We’ll confirm the time shortly.
