It’s been a while since we posted a dev diary. We’ve been bundling it in with the galactic news recently after we saw requests from players that we start posting it again. But now it gets its own dedicated post 🙂
Where’s the new patch?!?!
We said last week we hoped to have the new patch ready before the end of this week, but complications blocked us from being able to. The good news is the patch will be ready for release next Tuesday (Sept 15th).

Guard fleets will enable you to automatically defend parts of your territory – whether you’re online or offline. You can find out more about guard fleets on the wiki now.
- Build a guard fleet control on a colony to establish a guard zone around that star system (3LY radius)
- You can then order your fleets to guard that zone (fleet must be in the zone first)
- Enemy fleets entering a guard zone are automatically pursued and attacked by your fleets guarding that zone
Guard Fleets and Minefields
When we first announced guard fleets on the forum players were concerned that minefields could be used to lure an intercepting guard fleet to its doom.
There are two ways we intended to counter this: 1) Nerf minefields. 2) Enable guard fleets to avoid minefields (T2/T3 planetary scanners would be able to detect minefields).
Nerfing minefields has been planned for some time, the original goal of guard fleets was that they would be the primary method of defending your territory, especially while you were offline. And minefields were to be repurposed.
Before we nerf minefields, we wanted to check what option you preferred:
- Reduce their damage significantly
- Reduce their damage a little, but make it that each time a minefield deals damage its density decreases. So a minefield has a maximum amount of damage it can deal. Unlike now, where a minefield can deal unlimited damage as long as it remains.
Either change would be very quick/easy to do. What do you think?
