Hello friends and welcome back to our Developer Diary.
The team’s been hard at work on new features for the next update, and I thought you might like a couple of new screenshots and images 🙂
Everyone loves huge ships. The bigger, the better!
We all remember the astonishing – and at the same time frightening – triangle silhouettes of Star Destroyers from one famous franchise. Some of you may recall a certain gigantic battleship named Galactica? And Borg cubes… not so big in comparison, yet ‘big enough’ to amaze 🙂
That’s where our Dreadnoughts enter the stage. Enormous, powerful ships with the potential to eliminate entire fleets. Enemies will run (fly) away in ‘dread’ from YOU – commander of this armada. Etc. etc. etc. 🙂 But they will not be cheap and will have their weaknesses, so you shouldn’t think of them as Jack-of-all-trades ships.
We’ve already showed you one screenshot of Mankind’s Dreadnought on the roadmap – here are a couple more:
In the screenshots below you can see the current ‘work in progress’ that is Ripchee’s Dreadnought. It started as a ship shaped blob of grey clay, which has then been digitally hammered and chiselled into something much more visually pleasing.
Dreadnoughts will appear in the next galaxy, but may not be immediately available for all civs at the beginning – we’ll keep you updated with their progress though.
Even if you would prefer to be a peacemaker, pacifist or just explore the galaxy, you’re gonna need to be armed to the teeth to ensure other players respect your wishes! “Si vis pacem, para bellum.” If you want peace, prepare for war.
With the launch of the new galaxy we’ll add different levels for weapons. For example, you start with Plasma Cannon lvl 1, but after completing the right research will be able to install on your ships Plasma Cannon lvl 2. The following images show different levels of the same weapon. We’ll let you know more about new weapons and levels a little bit later.
In the last developer diary we talked about wreckages and their related mechanics – but didn’t have any screenshots for you. Sooo we want to fix this mistake:
P.S. Asteroid mining was done this week, but there were some hiccups along the way – like stacking asteroid fields on top of each other 🙂
That’s it for today. Thanks and see you next time!
And let us know in the forum if there’s anything particular you’d like us to cover in one of these posts 🙂
