It’s been another ‘fleet management’ themed week… A patch went out on Tuesday which included rolling back the ‘ships must be within 600m of each other’ mechanic and reintroduced the ‘ships must be in a circle’ mechanic.
But what wasn’t included in that patch was the new smart fleet merging we’re still working on. So right now, merging fleets involves plonking new ships next to each other in a line outside of the fleet circle (as do auto-formations).
Smart fleet merging on the way
Before the recent updates to fleet management, merging fleets via the context menu worked by adding the new ships to the existing fleet and then applying the circle auto-formation. This avoided having to algorithmically find space for each ship, but meant any changes made by the player to ship positions were undone with each merge.
With the new smart fleet merging on the way:
- New ships will instead be added to the fleet using the available space around existing ship positions (preserving the current formation)
- Auto-formations will be disabled if applying it would place ships outside of the fleet circle
The sizes of fleet circles will also need to be looked at along with other related config. But a patch including these changes shouldn’t be too far away 🙂 Let us know on the forum if you have any questions.
Other changes on the way
Automated colony development settings panel
The current version of automated colony development isn’t configurable which limits its usefulness to players. So this week a settings panel will be added to provide control over the construction of mines:
- Enable/disable constructing mines for a particular resource (all available resources enabled by default)
- Set a target mining rate per hour for each resource (mines will stop being built once it’s reached)
Large energy weapons
The lack of large energy weapons is something we’ve seen players discussing again recently, so we’re really pushing to get plasma shells ready for the next patch. They’re already listed on the wiki so you can take a look now if you like.
New weapons effects
Speaking of weapons, this week’s patch included some new effects which are ready for you to enjoy in the game now. We put a quick video together while testing to show off some of them:
See you again next week 🙂
